Now, they were both back and ready to return to action. Luckily enough, Stark was eventually saved by his armored bodyguard, Iron Man, who had just come back from the dead himself: the hero’s armor, however, had suffered major damage, so he had been forced to lay low until Stark was back to work and could build a new and improved model for him. Apparently, the billionaire inventor had never been dead, but rather kidnapped by terrorists, who had faked his death and held him captive in the effort of forcing him to build weapons for them.
During Stark’s “death”, his cousin Morgan Stark had seized control of the company, and organized its sale to Fujikawa Inc., but now that Tony was back, the markets were holding their breath to see what the “resurrected” CEO would have done of the deal, the legality of which was now questioned by many.Īs usual, Chess Roberts covered the entire story with professionalism, avoiding to spread rumors and reporting only those information that had been confirmed by the direct source, in this case Tony Stark himself. Chess Roberts was among the first ones to cover the story, months later, of the reappearance of the heroes, and along with them also of someone who had disappeared more or less during the same days: Tony Stark, CEO of Stark Enterprises, presumed to be dead. New York was already more than crowded with superheroes, and they usually brought a lot of big happenings, but none so big as Onslaught, a gargantuan menace that threatened the entire planet, and was ultimately defeated thanks to the ultimate sacrifice of both Avengers and Fantastic Four. She started as a news reporters, and finally became the anchorwoman for the channel, dealing with a number of sensational news in a matter of a few months. What we know is that she studied journalism, and eventually found a good job at CBNC, a news channel. She most likely lived in New York City, but it’s unknown whether that was her home city, or even what kind of upbringing she had in her early life.
Nothing is known about Chess Roberts before she began her career. In the comics, she works for a different channel, but her person of interest is always the same. In the movie, she works for WHiH World News, and covers the opening of the Stark Expo. She asked for a character from the comics, so she got tv reporter Chess Roberts… who has a small cameo also in the comics. Originally, Olivia Munn portrayed one of Tony Stark‘s lovers in Iron Man 2, but her role was cut, and director Jon Favreau offered her to star in a different cameo.
